Introduction

I was introduced to Model Rocketry back in August 1998 , and since then, I have built 18 model rockets, and have purchased two pre-made rockets.

At this present time, I am now starting to build my own rockets and engine designs, however, trying to obtain the materials required for this can be quite difficult.

The model rockets that I purchase in either kit form or as ready built are made by ESTES.

So far I have flown 10 of the 12 rockets I own, and have over 850 successful launches and landings.

With the models I currently own and the engines which I use, currently have the capability to power a rocket up to speeds in excess of 800 kph. Due to UK regulations, these engines can only be bought by people over the age of 18 years of age, and anyone under this age considering this as a hobby must be supervised by an adult at all times.

For anyone considering this as a hobby for the first time, I would recommend purchasing a starter kit by ESTES.

These kits can be purchased at any model shop such as Hamleys, if not they can order them in for you, please remember to purchase the starter kit first, as these will only cost you from about £24.95 upwards, and depending on the kit, purchase the engines recommended for the first flights. The engines that are usually recommend is the A8-3. This is quite a small engine, with a three second delay before the parachute, or recovery operation takes place.

More about the recovery operations and methods will be discussed further on in this section and the following pages and web links.

Over the past couple of months since this site was last updated, I have had some particular problems with some of my original rockets, and alas are no longer with us due to severe detonation at anything from 65ft all the way upto 1250ft, with some an unusual effects.

Pictures will follow of some of the newer rockets I have in my collection and of some of the close encounters these rockets have had.
